If you are visiting Gellert Spa in Budapest in late autumn, winter, or early spring, please note that the outdoor wave pool is seasonally closed from late October to May. However, the large indoor swimming pool, along with a range of thermal pools inside, stays open throughout the year, even during the winter holidays.
Winter Closure of Outdoor Wave Pool Gellert Spa Budapest
The open air Wave Pool in Gellert Spa & Thermal Baths is usually closed from October, or – if the weather allows – November until May (the wave pool only, as the other outdoor thermal pool stays open until freezing time). The last waves of the wave pool are normally generated at the end of September, then the pool stays open for outdoor swimming until late October or even November if there are warmer days. When the frosty days set in, the wave pool gets temporarily closed down until the tender spring days arrive in April or May.
Of course, there are about a dozen more pools in Gellert Spa to enjoy inside the Art Nouveau attraction of Budapest baths, so if you are planning an autumn / winter or early spring visit you will still find several beautiful pools with natural spring water to bathe / soak in.
As for the outdoor pools, there is a smaller thermal pool outside, next to the summer wave pool, which will be open throughout the colder months as long as the temperature of the air is above zero degree Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit).
