Visiting any baths, thermal spas may result in many questions, especially for first time visitors. Old guide books, old internet forums may also have misleading information regarding certain questions, such as nudity, pregnancy treatments etc.
Hopefully, with this section of FAQ, we will be able to provide you with good orientation and hassle free, relaxed experience on your visit Gellert Spa.
Is it possible?
Is it possible to visit Gellert Spa with children? Kids over 14 are very welcome to enjoy all pools in Gellert Spa, but for children under 14 years of age the pools are not recommended.
Is it possible to buy Gellert Spa tickets in advance? Yes and it is highly suggested, too. To avoid the long queues, expedited QR code entries and can be purchased in advance. The pre-booked tickets entitle visitors to a full day visit, include either a locker or a private changing cabin, and a private entrance at the self check in QR code readers.
Is it possible to book a massage therapy in Gellert Spa in advance? Yes, you can book your Gellert Spa massage treatment in advance. What is more, it is best to book a massage in advance as massages are subject to availability and same day massages are hardly available.
Is it possible to leave my personal belongings in Gellert Spa while enjoying the pools? What is a difference between a cabin and a locker? Please note that you cannot buy a ticket without a locker or a cabin. Both lockers and cabins are designed to store your belongings, but there are important differences between them.
Is it possible to rent a towel in Gellert Spa? Towel rental at Gellert Spa Baths has been suspended due to Covid restrictions. If you do not wish to buy a towel on the spot, please bring your own towel to the baths. We recommend Microfibre towels, as they are reusable, super absorbing and ultra lightweight, suitable for carrying around the city.
Is it possible to dry my hair in Gellert Spa? Do you have hairdryers? There are hairdryers in Gellert Spa by the showers (and not in the cabins), that is you can use the public hair drying equipment. Please note that unfortunately it is not allowed to use your own electrical equipment in the Baths. Thank you for your understanding.
Is it possible to be nude in Gellert Spa? Is there any dress code in Gellert Spa at all? As Gellert Spa became a mixed thermal spa since 2013, everyone needs to wear something at all times. The pools, the baths, the saunas, the whole facility are completely coed every day (from Monday to Sunday, from 6 am to 8 pm). it means, no nudity, please.
I am pregnant. Is it possible to have a massage and bathe in Gellert Spa during pregnancy? Unfortunately, most of the indoor and outdoor pools in Gellert Spa contain hot water (between 33 and 40 degrees) which is not recommended for ladies who are expecting a child. As for the massages, there is not any thermal baths in Budapest that offer pregnancy massage. The reason behind this is to prevent any potential medical complications that may occur.
Is it possible to refund tickets? Should you buy a full day ticket to Gellert Spa, but you only spend a couple of hours there, unfortunately, it does not entitle you to any refund. Full day ticket allows you to stay for any hours during any time of the day, as long as the facilities are open (6 am – 8 pm every day, unless if there is a National Holiday, or any special event).
Is it possible to take photos in Gellert Spa? Generally speaking, taking pictures in Gellert Spa is not regulated, there are no photography permission rules, so yes, you can bring your camera, mobile phone with you and feel free to take pictures and videos at the world famous spa complex, and upload them on social sites. There are some guidelines, though, especially if you take pictures of others, but it is only the general etiquette.

Gellert Spa is huge as it is one of the biggest natural spring water bath complexes in Central Eastern Europe, with several pools, saunas, steam rooms, massage rooms, changing facilities (cabins, lockers), restaurant, and more.

What – Gellert Spa?
What is a difference between a cabin and a locker? Please note that you cannot buy a ticket without a locker or a cabin. Both lockers and cabins are designed to store your belongings, but there are important differences between them. Cabins are small and private changing rooms, which are used for getting changed and also storing your belongings, while lockers are storage boxes.
What is the content of the thermal waters? What exactly are the minerals in the water in Gellert Spa? The thermal, hot water supply to Gellert Spa comes from Gellert Hill. The hot spring water contains calcium, hydrogen-carbonate, magnesium, sulphate-chloride, and also sodium and with a significant content of fluoride ions.
What special health safety tips you have when visiting Gellert Spa? There are certain health / physical conditions when thermal water is not only not recommended, but even discouraged. Please read our notes about it if you are unsure.
What is a dress code in Gellert Spa? Gellert Spa is a coed thermal spa since 2013, everyone needs to wear something at all times. The pools, the baths, the saunas, the whole facility are completely coed every day (from Monday to Sunday, from 6 am to 8 pm). It means, no nudity, please.
How – Gellert Spa?
How pools of Gellert Spa are kept clean? While the hot thermal pools use a sophisticated filtering system the swimming pool and the outdoor cool pools contain a non-offensive amount of chlorine and cleaning salts.
When – Gellert Spa?
When is Gellert Spa open? Gellert Spa & Thermal Baths is open every day of the week, from Monday to Sunday from 6 am to 8 pm. Gellert Spa is also open on national holidays and bank holidays, 365 days a year. However, the thermal baths may have shorter opening times on holidays.
When can I stay longer in Gellert Spa? If you wish to use the thermal pools and bath facilities in the evening in Gellert Spa, you are welcome to stay until 8 pm (pools need to be vacated 15 minutes before closing time).
For late night bath experience, you can visit Szechenyi Bath, whose outdoor pools (2 hot spring thermal pools and 1 cooler swimming pool) is open until 10 pm.
